English the Officail Language
The language spoken by many is the English language. It happens to be the one that we know and the one that we have been taught to speak. The English language is spoken in many different ways and in the future will probably be taken to a new high.
The English language has become a house hold language to Amreicans like chinese has to China and spanish to Spain. In Dennis Baron's essay "Don't Make English Official--Ban It Instead" he says "no one seems to read it much lately, few can spell, and fewer still can't parse it". In other words the English language has become the language that even english teachers would need to use spell checker on the computer. We as Americans tend to misspell words or not even bother to read the english language anymore.
As an English Professor Baron make his proposal seem a little absurd because if the English language was not Official then what would be the language that every one would use. "Chinese is too hard to write, especially if your're not chinese". Which basically means that with all of the immigrants coming the States what would be the language that every one would be able to use.
If the English language is not the Offcaial language then what do you think will be the Official language and is there a need for that language?

I agree with you Latasha on the fact that this is a crazy idea. But I don't think you need to take his message in a literal way he is only trying to prove a point by using this completely crazy essay.
I agree this is a crazy idea he has come up with and I don't ever see it happening.
I do think a lot of people misuse the english language, but that goes for any language- Spanish, Chinese, French, or any other language as far as that goes. Aj and Jordan, I completely agree that this idea is crazy and will never occur, but I think when he wrote the essay his scarstic tone allows one to think he knows the english language will never be banned.
I think that there doesn't need to be an official language. It would cause to many complications. Things have been fine throughout history with the diversity of languages so why does it really matter. Yes the English language in progressively getting worse because people are becoming lazy these days. They want it easy and quick. So instead of saying, "I would like to ask you a question," its now, "let me ax you sometum." If they want to fix the issue just start keeping Grammer in classes. Start in Kindergarden and take it all the way through college. I stopped having a English class when I was in 8th grade and I didn't start writing papers till I was well into high school. I could have really used some grammer lessons to help me with the content of my papers. So I think things need to stay the same and people need to stop looking for a quick fix.
Why bann English? Its the most popular language in the world. If America ever do decide to bann our language it will take a very long time until it becomes the most common speech.
I agree with you Latasha. This guy has a crazy idea but I think his meaning is good. He is correct when he states about people cannot speak it.
I agree with you all, this essay was ridiculous. We don't need to ban World's most popular language. It would be waste of time.
I also feel that this essay was ridiculous. There is no way you can ban english from America. I know I just don't have the time to sit and try to learn a new language when everybody knows exactly what I'm saying when I'm speaking English.
I think the essay is pretty good. I think that the idea is absurd but wasn't the baby eating also. I know I would love to not have to take english considering i'm pretty bad at it but that would never happen. I think Baron knew that as well, like lauren said.
I also agree with sarah because my last class of grammar was in eighth grade and then I touched on it a little in twelveth grade because my teacher knew this.
I agree with everybody that this is a crazy thought. I don't think that banning English is necessary at all.
Why would you ban a language, its crazy what would happen to the people who would still speak english, arrest them. I agree though with lauren in that people do misuse the language but thats no ones fault but the person talking that way. I would suggest making english the offical language because it is so widely used because if I were to travel to another country I'd expect myself to speak thier language and others should expect the same.
Of course no one wants to ban the English language; Baron was simply addressing a point.
In the beginning of Baron's essay, he discusses that there are some people who want to make the English language the official language of the United States of America. For those of you who didn't already know, or simply do not pay attention, the USA does not currently, nor have they ever, had an official language.
Therefore, I believe that the English language should be made the official language of the USA.
I think the new language that will have to be learned in the time to come would be Spanish. There are a lot hispanics coming over to America for jobs (money, homes, stablility) you know the things they can't get where they are from. On top of all that you have more privilages and more freedom in the U.S. of A. People are learning the language now to get a jobs because it seems that you would actually have to be bilingual to get a job now. That brings more service to the business and more customers who are satisfied. The hispanic nation is about to become a dominate race in the Americas so Spanish is going to end up being one of the dominant languages after while
I agree. I can’t understand why Baron thinks English should be banned. I also firmly believe that it is impossible to ban the English language. Think about the countries with the most power in the world. America, England, Australia and many other countries, they all speak English. English is becoming more and more popular in my opinion. People will find it easier to communicate in the world if they are able to speak English.
