Ways to Change Problems in America
In Eden’s essay about casual sex, she talks about how her childhood affected her views on the subject. Society taught her that casual sex was the right thing to do. She, later, made up her own mind about it and does not have casual sex.
To me casual sex today seems like it was in her time. People seem to need to do something to pass the time and to fill that void they have sex instead of going and play an extracurricular activity.
Why do people just play a sport with some friends? Then, there wouldn’t be a need to worry about getting pregnant, cheating, and many other things. I, also think this could lead to less overweight people in America because they would be getting more exercise by participating in sports.
So here is what we need to lower the amount of casual sex, pregnancies, abortions, and overweight problems in America. Stop spending free time in bad ways. Just get together with some friends and do something physical for a change.
These are just some of my opinions and there may not be true to everyone. But for the most part I think it would work. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Yea, America (read: the World) should cut out the view that casual sex is ok. In my opinion, it leads to way too much - for lack of a better word - stress.
But the answer isn't to simply go out and play a physical game to fulfill that void that boredom creates. There's also an emotional component that I feel is being left out here.
I've had friends (and I know others out there have or are these people) that had casual sex, not just because they're bored, but also to "cement" a relationship, or to make themselves feel needed or loved. It sounds really corny and cliche' but it's the truth. (Please, I mean to offend no one.) Sex is, in the most basic emotional sense, an attempt to feel needed, wanted, insert your word of choice here.
There's a psychological problem here that's begging for attention.
Not to say that playful physical activity wouldn't help, but a game of soccer isn't going to cure the underlying problem.
I agree with Wendy, going outside and playing a sport is not exactly going to solve the problem of people having casual sex. It will take their minds off of the issue but only for a while.
It is my belief that most teens etc. have sex just to get it over with. The pressure or lack of fitting in leads them to believe that in order to change what they feel they should just go ahead and be done with waiting for that "prince charming."
To be honest, I have no suggestions on the issue of casual sex, mostly because it is something that is always going to be around.
Sex has become a major part of America it is in television, movies even video games. Casual sex is not going to disappear any time soon.
I agree with Wendy and Hope. Sports will will not be a substitute for sex. The reason people want to have casual sex is that they want to hook up with no strings attached.
I definitely agree with Wendy and the others. Sports will not solve the problem of casual sex happening so often. And don't blame boredem for wanting to have sex...in the United States, we are so sexually repressed compared to other countries, the difference is, places in Europe have smart campaigns on how to keep teenagers and anyone having sex, safe.
Here, it's taboo and we don't even talk about it...so doing it is just another way for people to rebel against society. Not because they're bored.
Casual Sex is something that just happens regardless. You can't tell people what to do or how to handle themselves. If they want to be invovled in casual sex; the consequences will follow.
Christopher, I have to disagree with you when you say that playing sports would cut down on casual sex.
While I agree that some people have sex out of boredom, you are not addressing the main reason most women have casual sex.
Women have casual sex for 1 of 2 reasons: either they were not raised to respect themselves or they are trying to feel wanted and loved.
I, in no means, mean that sports will solve this problem. The only reason I chose sports is it was the first thing that came to mind. Instead of sports, it could be going to the movies with friends, going to a party, or just going out and being with some friends. It is just something that takes the place of having casual sex.
Well i agree with you Christopher. There are better things people can be doing to pass time rather than just having sex.
But i do not understand where Jordan is coming from when he classifies women having casual sex under two conditions. I mean just because someone was not raised to respect themselves does not mean that they are going to participate in casual sex.
Christopher, I think you made a good point as far as connecting Eden's essay with other problems in America. Though I must say that your suggestion seems completely unrealistic. Eden did not have casual sex because she did not have anything else to do. Sex is an enjoyable activity and she did it because she liked it and thought sex in such circumstances to be okay. I'm sure there have been whore houses or red light districts near a soccer field.
I know what you are talking about Christopher. There are a group of people who party and have sex basically as their primary source of entertainment. According to the television which documents the party life of Paris Hilton or the "tons of fun" drinking and sex of Girls Gone Wild, partying and sex are the funnest things to do in the world.
If people would see the consequences of these actions such as STDs, pregnancy, hangovers, and stupid regrettable debauchery. They would realize that it really isn't just for fun. If people wnat real fun they should look to healthy alternatives. Those of which you listed.
I agree that sex is a complicated thing and that a lot of people don't just do it for fun. But as for those who want to go crazy with sex and "just have fun with it." Theres healthy activities that are actually way more enjoyable than all those hangovers and all those "scares." Sex is not just an activity, its much, much more.
I have to agree with Wendy, Hope and the others, going outside and doing sports doesn't not stop people from wanting to have casual sex. Casual sex seems to always be an option for people who don't want to be in a relationship.
I agree with everyone. Being involved in different activities does not stop or prevent you from having casual sex. You're still going to have a social life, and your going to interact with everyone just like a normal person.
My thoughts on this post is that people do what they want to do. You cant change them if they like to have sex all the time, then thats what there going to do.
