Is Complaining Getting Worse?

In the article “Why Don’t We Complain?” by William F. Buckley Jr. that was written in the 1960s. In the article Buckley explains how people did not complain because they figured someone else would possibly complain.

I’ve noticed since Buckley’s article things have changed. Since his article people have become more vocal and impatient. They do not sit around and wait in hopes someone else may complain for them, instead more and more people are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to getting their way. Most of the times getting their way means getting their food right away or not having a hamburger fixed perfect.

I am not saying it is completely out of hand to complain over serious issues, but there is a big difference between complaining and whining. In my opinion whining is someone’s reaction to a very minor situation and complaining is someone’s reaction to maybe through their eyes as something more serious.

Hopefully, complaining and whining will not continue to grow worse as time goes on. Possibly, people will return to the same mind set as in Buckley’s article.

I agree with you Jordan that complaining and whining are two totally different things. I also agree that the issue of complaining and whining has gotten worse since he wrote his articles. In my opinion I think that complaining and whining will get worse as time changes because people get a since of entitlement.

I agree with both of you in the sense that complaining and whining has gotten worse over time. On the other hand Jordan, I do disagree with your wish that, “Hopefully, complaining and whining will not continue to grow worse as time goes on.” The only way to fix or change things, as far as politics or even as simple as things in everyday life, is to complain. Things will remain the same if authority feels everyone or at least the majority is satisfied. For example, in history, women would never have had the rights they have today had it not been for complaints against the way they were being treated. As far as whining goes, that is absolutely irrelevant. No one likes to hear whining.

I definitly agree that the;re is a significant difference between complaining and whining. But I believe that if something isn't gong the way it is supposed to, or you've payed for something to be a certain way, you're entitled to complaining.

I agree with aj in that I to believe that complaining and whining will only get worse. I also agree though with rebeka in that if you pay for something to be a certain way you should get it that way. Everyone handles every situation a different way than another person but i believe that no one should make a scene if things dont go their way. Its a fact of life that we dont always get things the way we want or goes the way we want it too.

The essay written by Buckley is definitely out dated because things have changed. I agree with Jordan because now everybody takes initiative and speaks up to be heard. Everybody is out to succeed and they will do whatever they must do to reach their goals.

I agree and disagree with you Jordan. I also hope that whining and complaining doesn't get sny worse, but at the same time if something is going wrong that could affect a lot of people, complaining should be done in an orderly fashion to get good results in the end. Complaining in a sense is good, if the problem is affecting a lot of people, and could possibly turn into a bigger one. If only Buckley got up to complain about the heat, or the out-of-focus picture at the movie theatre, they would have been more comfortable on the train, and seen a better picture at the movie theatre. In that sense, he wasn't the only person in both of those situations that had that problem

I do agree with Lsuren C. that the only way to get a point across in something like politics is by complaining. Complaining can change a decision for the positive alot of times.

I disagree with you Jordan on the facts that “whining is someone’s reaction to a very minor situation”. How am I suppose to judge a situation? A situation I judge to be macro might be a very minute in your judgment. People think differently. This makes sense because complaints are obtained made on little mistakes that can be easily corrected. I agree with Lauren C. “whinning is irrelevant”.

I agree that complaining is getting worse as time goes on and that is why I believe it has become more like whining. I do agree with Lauren that complaining is necesary to change problems in society as long as they don't start whining.
