Media v.s. Self-Esteem

When I was reading the eassy about "Hunger" by Maggie Helwig their was a couple of passages that I truely enjoyed. Their was also some things in the eassy that brought
my attention to a complete stop.the first thing that stand out was how females would change the way they look just to belong. the reason why I said that because the media has put so much information on t.v. and in magazines. One time when I was in 7th grade I became drawn into the media also. Why I became drawn? well I started doing things to harm my body, such as make myself throw up, servation. I felt as though that if I follow the media about how being skinny is better. I believe that in Maggie Helwig eassy she was writing to let her reader's know about how the media change the way young girls will think. Just like the olsen twin and Lenzie Lohan. They are famous and they have a lot of teenage girls looking up to them. So as her reader's what kind of point is Maggie Helwig trying to make in her eassy? To me her point was that the media was showing young ladies that it's alright to do these things. magazines has Ad's about how to loss weight and what can be done. I believe that young ladies should become who ever they want to be and trying to be someone you are not is truely isn't cool.

I agree with you Tammy because I beleive that young girls should be avle to go out without being criticized. I feel that you should be comfortable in your own body and it does not matter what the media says.

Media and magazines do have a strong impact on young females. I totally agree with Tammy because alot of females feel that they should have th e body that they see on television and in magazines. Females today are not comfortable with themselves unless they have that perfect body.

I want to bring another light on this subject. I have been skinny for basically my whole life. This was never an issue until recently when anorexia and bulimia became a 'hot topic'. I am in no way complaining about my body shape; in fact, I never thought about it until I was first accused of being anorexic. I want to emphasize that I was accused. I know that the media has produced the horrible idea that for a woman to be 'beautiful' she must be small. However, it seems that often times people jump to the conclusion that if someone is skinny she has an eating disorder. Please hesitate and consider that the person could simply be shaped that way.

I also agree with you, Tammy. The media, magazines, and some television in general, makes it look like it's wrong to be big or ugly or whatever the case might be. Some many young girls are trying so hard to be like what they see on tv that they never really accept who they are and just be happy with themselves. I think that everyone is beautiful in their own way and it was meant to be that way.

Yes,I agree with you Tammy. The media play an important role with image. Whether it's children or adults media affects everyone,in some way. What some people see is what they want to do or achieve.

I agree with Tammy one hundred percent. The media set out this image that girls try to obtain. Everybody want to have a model figure. What we really need to do is love ourself inside out. Thin does not equal beauty. Now a days men are starting to like women with a little meat on there bones. Just because the media put emphsis on being skinny does not mean us women need to follow it.

The media has made it seem crucial to have a "perfect" body. I think that all of the stars should just keep themselves covered up because as long as people can not see their "perfect" bodies, they will not be so self-confident about their bodies.
