Get Involved!
In “Binge Drinking as a Substitute for a “Community of Learning” Kenneth A. Bruffee wanted to express to college professors and administrators the real reason for binge drinking in universities. Kenneth Bruffee’s reason why binge drinking is such a prominent problem in universities is because freshmen do not have guidance in making friends. Bruffee used statistics and personal experiences to persuade his readers. He also persuaded his readers by giving solutions and suggestions the colleges could use to improve the student body. Bruffee did this when he was talking about the approach Brooklyn College took in 1987. Brooklyn College had some professors put their students in groups during classes allowing them to interact with each other and find common interest outside of fraternity and sorority parties. Bruffee also used persuasion in the last paragraph by reassuring the administrators and professors that trying to get their students to interact with each other in classes could only bring positive results. I think Bruffee did a great job in persuading universities to take an active role in their student’s lives.

I agree with Hope, Bruffee had good persuade to the reader. He wants colleges to help students get involved in different activities so they can have less chance of making bad decisions, for example drinking. Bruffee may have the idea of how to stop this problem, but the student is the one who makes the decision, hopefully a good one.
