Racsim is still alive

Can you believe that certain companies discriminate over the phone? Companies discriminate due to the sound of your voice. If you sound African-American or Mexican-American some housing agencies and job employers won’t call you back or tell you that the house or job isn't open any more.

That's ridiculous that we as Americans still battle racism. Last week the MLB honored a great player in Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier for Major League Baseball. He was honored by over 200 players from the league wearing his number. That shows us that we are getting better but there is still racism out there. Like the telephone incidents that Rice describes in her article. The tests that Baugh runs show that racism is out there. I amazes me to know that Baugh being a doctor in education and has a lot more credentials cant get a house just because his English is a little different.

Baugh said he cant speak in different types of english he can speak standard english which is just like white people. When he called them and talked in his standard english they called back and when he talked in his regular voice they didnt. Baugh also states that it was comical to see the housing agents when they finally saw him after they thought he was white.

Todays society needs to learn how to treat everyone with the same amount of respect. The world will be a happier place if everyone would get along. If everyone would just love everyone would we go to war, would people get mugged and would people get murdered just for a couple of dollars. If the world would learn to love each other no one would ever be in pain.

The Latina Affect

While I was on my senior trip to Cancun I found it real interesting to see how the American guys acted towards the Mexican women. They seemed to be amazed by them it was like fly to the bug zapper they couldn’t help them selves when they saw them.

Why is it that Mexican women seem to have this majestic affect to American guys? Is it the accent or the way the dress maybe because American men have seen Latina women dance so exotically and so sexy that it turns them on. Latina women have a type of swagger to them. They hold them self in a very positive way and they are very proud, they want you to know were they come from and their not scared to let you know.

This is a mystery to me to find that men are so attracted to Latina women. I wonder how this is in Judith Ortiz Coffer she says that women looked at her different when she was in America just because of the way she dressed and it wasn’t a good look from people. Maybe it was just the women looking at her, because to me it seems that men look at Latina women as if their angels from the heavens above. Another instance in which Coffer writes about is when she is on a bus and a man dropped down to his knees and started singing to her for no reason.

Why men are attracted to Latina women so bad is no real mystery. Latina women are just like all women just more exotic. So when it comes to women men are always going to be fascinated but Latina women will always be special.

Maybe not the best way to go

“Binge Drinking as a Substitute for a “Community of Learning” tells a story of how colleges need to improve the way enrolling freshman meet new people. The author uses examples from his own experiences the try to get the audience to try a new way of meeting people. The authors says that he joined a Fraternity just to fit and he strives for kids not to do this because it will possibly lead to Binge Drinking.

The truth may not be enough

In Rachael Toor’s essay “Confessions of a Recovering Admissions Officer” the main point is that the truth is better but sometimes the truth just isn’t enough. These kids have many different that things that take their time away, many things such as visiting grandma, everyday chores, homework, and spending time with friends and family. She finds out that if they told the truth about what they really did maybe it wouldn’t be enough. Or would it? In this essay she tells of many different ways kids write lies and use fraud to try and get into college, this is also a way she uses to persuade you into getting you to do your best and mostly tell the truth.
