Reckless Driving

In the essay "A Call to Action" by Angela Daly she talks about how there is number of bills that have been made in order to stop drivers from using cell phones while on the road but they aren't being enforced very strictly. And I agree because there are plenty of people that use the cell phone while their driving and they sort of swerve while on the road.

I have even used my cell phone while I was driving and even though I didn't swerve if something was suppose to happen I wouldn't be able to react as quick as I would if I wasn't on the phone. This can be proven with psychology having to do with your eyes sending messages to your brain and if your not focus just on the road then it will take a little longer but that's not the point. The point is that cell phones have been the cause of "450 accidents out of 1000 in a year" says, Daly. That's enough numbers for it to be compared to DUI.

If that's the case they mine as well legalize drunk driving since you still swerve when your drunk, cell phones may not have the same amount of deaths as drunk drivers but they both are still killing people. I know allot of people who say they can drive drunk and I've been in the car with them and we make it home or to the club safe but they still penalize you for it even if your under the influence. This is not something they over look neither they are setting up road blocks everywhere and pulling people over on the road that might make a mistake just to see if their drunk. They don't look over that law their actually getting more strict.

You can see people using their cell phone a mile away, come on you can't miss it, a hand being held to their head with their mouth moving like their sing their favorite song but you don't hear any music coming from their car, but yet they don't enforce their own law, that's whats it was made for.

Yea there are many solutions to solving this problem by wearing ear pieces or the new latest fashion the bluetooth but it still takes away attention from the road.

But with if your using your cell phone to stay awake by talking to your girl/boyfriend after a long days work? Do you think it helps you stay awake and concentrate on the road?

I agree with you Charles. I feel that even if you feel that you need to stay on the phone to stay awake then you are putting yourself and others at risk of being hurt.

I know that when I am driving I try not talk on the phone so that I am abke to concentreate nore on the road.

I agree with you, Charles, when you say that the law against cell phone use while driving is not effective.

In my oppinion, people use cell phones while simply because it is a habit and they know that they won't get caught. If the police started punishing more people who do that, these people would be afraid to do it.

I agree with you Charles. After a 10 hour day at work, my fiance' calls to talk to me so that she can stay awake, and needless to say it works. Cell phones are not harmful if used in the right way

I really think driving while speaking to cell phone is very dangerous. And I also think that Americans speak to cell phones while driving a lot.

It is prohibited by law in Finland too, but I think Finns obey this rule more than Americans. In America I have only seen once a car pulled over, because one is speaking to a cell phone.

Nevertheless in Finland sometimes I think it's too dangerous when people obey this law so strict that they even pull the car over in a highway to speak in a phone. That can be even more dangerous than just speaking in a phone while driving.

I agree with Charles. I feel that people know whether they can talk on their cell phones and drive at the same time. If they can not then they do not need to do it but if they and need to then they should be able to. Like Latasha say cell phone can help you and others.

I agree, Charles. I never really thought of it in that way, but now that you have brought it to my attention, I have to agree that talking to someone on a cell phone when you are driving home and you're really tired can actually be beneficial.

Yes, I also agree with you Charles. Talking on the cellphone if you are tired will help you stay awake. But you still have less concentration because your tired, driving, and trying to have a conversation all at the sametime. It may help but in the end you still want be focused on the road.
