Pay Attention
In Waters's essay he talks about how people need to slow down and think about the passage they are reading and try to comprehend what it really says.
I agree, I feel if you have to skim over something go head, but being a college student that's not going to take you far in your class. You may have some people out there who can speed read something and get it out of the way, but are they really going to understand what is going on. Us being college students we not only have to look at the big picture but we also have to notice the mediums and the strokes and the patterns of the art work. We have to understand why the artist put things in certain places.
That's just like the readings Mr. Barnette gives us, I think I can speak for some of us when I say we were reading the assignment but we weren't paying attention to what was read. We were "speed reading" or we were "multitasking" trying to get the assignment done, instead of being "quiet" and noticing every little detail that the writer was trying to give us.
The thing I do disagree on is the throwing time out the window. With use being college students I feel there isn't enough time to do anything, whether its that big paper you have to write, or studying for your exams. There's always something to do being a student so we gotta get things down as quick as possible so we can move on to something else that is also very important.

I have found myself in certain circumstances just skimming through a lot of my reading assignments, but later realize that I really don't understand anything that I've read. I agree with Charles when he said that college students really don't have time for anything, because we have other classes that requires to get their work done so really theirs not a lot of time for college students to really get work done in their other classes plus study.

I definitely agree with Charles. I think that going through things helps a lot. I know that in my case I used to skim through stuff alot i high school simply because it was essay and teachers really did not care. But I have learned that in college you cant skim through something and expect to understand what youve 'read'. Alot of time should be put into what you are reading.
I do find myself skimming things instead of slowly reading them, but I can understand things better when I skim because I don't get caught up on potentially confusing ideas. If I read through something slowly, i put too much thought into it and end up confusing myself.
I think Charles is completely right when he says college students ruch through things because we have more to do. But in reality we speed through things in the long run to do the things we want to do.
I can never get understand a reading assignment if I don't sit down in a quiet place and read. If I am distracted or are trying to read at quick pace, I always end up missing a lot of material I would have enjoyed.
I understand where Matthew is coming from, if I read something fast I am less likely to remember it. I also miss important or key points. So I think that it is best if I slow my reading down.
