Is College for You?
In the proposal about how college is a waste of time and money, Bird makes her point about why she believes that college is a waste of time and money. Birds point is that students should have the right to be able to choose what they want to do with their life. One reason would be that colleges are being forced on high school graduates. Meaning high school graduates are being told they have to receive higher learning in order to have a good job. Another reason Bird thinks that college is a waste of time is because the cost of colleges are becoming a problem for some students that really have no money. Third reason on how Colleges are a waste of time is when a person receives their degree in a field that they want, but goes into another field of work. Going into a new field is just a waste of time and money.
As for my experiences as a freshman in college, I felt as though I was being pressured in high school about going to college. I really didn’t have a say so about what I was doing with my life. I was told that I would be nothing in life if I didn’t attend college. College to me was the only way out. Personally, colleges are not a waste of time because we are receiving the help we need to pursue the career that we want. I felt as though college is preparing us for the real world. The costs of colleges are not cheap, but it’s pretty expensive. I felt as though if I can benefit from it I might as well pay for it then.
How do you feel about college and how have you benefit from it? Is college a waste of time and money?

Honestly, I will say that I love college. I guess it really stems from the fact that I just love learning in general, but I do feel that to some people it is just a waste of their time and money. I really do not see how some people can just pay tuition at a school and then not even bother to go to their classes or get involved with their lectures. I mean, what is the point in paying the $20,000 a year for? So you can just socialize and hang out with your friends? Now, I know that is not a huge majority of people at college, because most of the people who come to college actually want to learn and get their moneys worth, but what about the people mentioned before? It really makes you wonder why some people decided to go to college in the first place.
I agree with you Tammy, I don't think that college is either a waste of time or money. I think that college is a very good thing that everyone should be able to experience. When I was growing up I was never forced to attend college I was always asked to go to Technical College which I did not want to do. My parents thought that since my sister went their and graduated with a associates degree in Dental Hygeine and now making 30 dollars an hour that that is what I should do. When I told my parents that I wanted to go to Lander they still tried to persuade me to go to Aiken Tech. I refused to follow in her footsteps, I'm not saying that she didn't learn anything, but I was always the better student then her in high school she took tech prep classes while I took honors and AP. So I finally told my parents that I did not work so hard just to go to a tech college. So if it is really worth it to you college is not a waiste of time or money. But it all comes down to one's motivations.
Well Tammy I feel that college is a wonderful place to receive higher education and the benefits of a college education is the amount of money you could make after you receive a degree and graduate from college. I feel that college is not a waste of time and money because in the long run a college education can make you have a better career chance.
Tammy, I agree with you. I myself, was not pressured, but more expected to go to college by my family. However, I expected myself to go to college as well because I just couldn't see myself wasting my intelligence flipping meat patties at McDonald's. So those of us who have the oppurtunity to go to college shouldn't throw it away. It is a good experience.
I believe college isn't a waste of time. It only can be a waste of you the student in't forth the effort of making college a main priority. The only way college can be a waste of money is if you make it that way, by not going to classes or taking the time to study so you can better yourself ,to become something more then just the average high school graduate. Once you graduate it is your job to find the job that you desire all through college, and many college studets make the mistake my sticking to their summer jobs , without taking the initiative to get an internship in the field of their major.
