College is a waste of time and money...
College costs too much. In order to make it out of college, you have to get student loans. Student loans can come back and kick you in the butt. After four years of college, those loans can really add up. Parents and students should really think about forcing or coercing their children to go to college. If an adult does not want to go to college, then he or she should not be forced too. When people graduate from high school, they are considered adults because they are the legal age of eighteen. The majority of college students are interested in two things only: having fun and being free. When they come to college, their free liberties are only free to a certain extent. They are limited in what they can actually do; especially if they are staying on campus. Unlike myself I live off campus in my own house. Most people, like Richard Baloga, do choose to stay in college because they want to get a degree and make something of themselves. They understand the importance and value of getting an education. The majority of parents think that if you go to college for four years, and go to graduate school for three years then they feel that you will make it in the world. They think that you will get a good job and never have to worry about anything again. Competition is out there. In this day and age, it’s not about what you know, but who you know.

I disagree with Joseph being that i think college is a good investment for an individual. Although i do agree with the point that sometimes its not what you know but who you know. Because there are many people out there that do not have a degree and got a very good paying job!
Agree with Brandon that, unless all your are trying to get out of college is a career, college is a good investment. A college degree doesn't immediately allow you to automatically trump other job applicants, but it does give you much better chances if your major was dirctly related to a certain career.
I believe that apart form careers and money, one should strive to be a well-rounded person. One should wnat to be diverse and well educated so as to understand the world and people around them better. College does help with setting someone up to have a better foundation in knowledge.
I also agree with Brandon. I feel that going to college means so much more than a career. Even though in order for me to become a teacher I have to go to college, an higher education means so much more to me. The value of a college education means to me that I'm trying to become the best I can be. We should all strive to be our best. If that means that we have to cough up extra money out our pockets than so be it. College is very expensive but thats another subject.
I agree with joseph in the sense that I do not think that students should be forced to attend college just because parents think that they will be better off economically with a college degree. I don't necessraily think that this is true in today's society I think it is more about how much the individual chooses to succeed, because a person without a college degree can sometimes earn more than some with a college a degree.
I also think that they should not be forced to attend universities because it defies everything that these places were founded for. The original universities were places where individuals went to become enlightened to gain a better understanding of self and the world around the self. Nowadays this doesn't seem to be the case because of the parents that make their children go to universities.
College shouldn't be about having to go it should be about wanting to go.
I agree with Brandon in that college is a really good choice and investment. People who attend a higher degree usually do make much more money in a life time than non degree individuals. I also agree though that no one should be forced to go to college just because their parents make them. Everyone has their own opinion and hopefully mature enough to make the right decisions.
"The majority of college students are interested in two things only: having fun and being free."
I disagree Joseph, sure I love to be free and have fun but thats not the reason why am in college. Show me a college student that party all time and I will show you a student who fails.
Certainly, college shouldn't only be about learning and no fun, there should be balance between the two.
I agree with you Joseph. I choose to go to college, but my best friend that I have known all my life choose not too. He said that he can not make it in a college world and that he can do more things with his hands than with a book. He has been working construction since graduation, he has the second highest position in the job, under only the head contractor
I disagree with you Joseph on "its not what you know, its who you know" because you can know Bill Gates and want to be one of his engineers but if you are not qualified then you will not have a job. That statement is over rated and over used.
Although forcing or coercing someone into going to college is wrong, that person should make a decision to go on their own, and I agree that parents and school counselors should push high school graduates towards college. What else are eighteen-year-olds are going to do besides getting a job if they are motivated enough, but like you said Joseph, eighteen-year-olds want freedom, and freedom does not include a steady job. The reason parents push their kids toward college may not be completely because they want their child to have a degree, though that is an added bonus, it is also for the experience.
I disagree with you, Joseph, when you say that people shouldn't be forced to go to college when they get out of high school because they are over eighteen and therefore adults. I seriously don't think that an eighteen year-old person has much knowledge about life, so we should just listen to our parents, who have much more experience than we do, and make an effort going to college and becoming a better qualified person.
I agree with you Kasheia and Edikan. College means so much more and other things than just having fun. And I agree with you Brandon that college is a good investment for an individual.
Nevertheless I disagree a little bit with Joseph, when he says that parents shouldnt force children to college, I really think parents should encourage their children to college, because they know that one's career possibilities grow after getting a degree. Children who are only 18 years old, dont usually know what they want to do, so college here in America is a very good possibility as you can change your major as many times as you want.
I agree with Brandon that we go to college for a career. In order for us to be able to teach others and help others we need to get an education in whatever it is that we want to do in the future and college is the place to go. College is a good investment because when you finish college and get a job in your career, you'll be making more money than someone who only has a high school degree. College also helps you figure out who you are as an individual which is also a thing for people. College makes you work hard for what you want and it teaches you that not everything in life just comes to you and you actually have to do some work to get what you want.
