In William Buckley’s essay, “Why Don’t we Complain?” he talks about how Americans have become obedient to authority. He also goes in to explain how people would rather keep their mouths shut instead of complaining about something that bothered them, just to make everyone’s lives easier.
I feel that Buckley made a very good point in his essay. Humans are like that. We are willing to just keep our mouths shut in order to make the “authority” figures content. In his essay he talks about the time when he and his wife were at the movie theater and the whole time the picture was out of focus, and how he was amazed that no one did or said anything to get it fixed.
I found this article very interesting because, in my opinion, most people in today’s society are willing to speak up if something is bothering them. I know I would have said something if I was at a movie theater and the screen was out of focus.
This essay is a great example of how people and things change over the years. I know many people who are willing to complain about anything that bothers them, unlike the people on the train that Buckley was describing.
What do you all think about how people’s attitudes toward handling problems in this day in age differ from people in Buckley’s time period?

I agree with Kristen W., people have changed since Buckley’s day and age. People today don’t even give the service time to realize that they have a problem before someone starts complaining. People today are very demanding because today we feel that if we pay for it, it should meet ever one of our demands.
I agree with both Kristen and Stephen in that nowadays people will let others know if something is bothering them or if something is not right.
We have grown up in a society where if something is not the way we want it then we do something about it. Even if it requires us to actually fix the problem or to get someone else to take care of it.
This is a change from how things used to be in Buckley's society.
I agree with Kristin, Rachel and Stephen. I think that people complain nowadays, just to hear themselves talk. Our society is very spoiled and we want, what we want, and we want it NOW. We have become almost snobish to have things a certain way that we think is right.
If Buckley were in todays present world and think he would write an essay titled "Why do we Complain So much?"

I agree with Kristin W., there are so many people that do not express what they feel. This can be a disadvantage to them and others. Speaking up about a situation brings up many differents views and could help solve a problem. Instead there are those who leave things unsaid and make an issue arise for a long time. It takes others to complain for something to get done a certain way.
