A Hard Decision
In Patricia Bauer text “The Abortion Debate No One Wants to Have,” Bauer discuss aborting babies because of their disabilities. Bauer expresses her feelings toward women who take a prenatal test and decides to have an abortion because they find out their child may have disabilities.
A way that she expresses her feelings is by describing her own daughter who has Down syndrome. Bauer’s point of describing her daughter is to let society know that she is like any other girl her age. Bauer says she does not understand how “we as a society can tacitly write off a whole group of people as having no value.
I agree and disagree with Bauer argument. Just because a baby have a disability does not mean it should be aborted, but at the same time some people are not mature enough to rise a child with a disability.
So what is your opinion on terminating pregnancy because the baby has a disability?

I believe it should be the individauls' decision. No other person is affected by the decision to abort a child but the parent or parents to which the child is being born to. At the same time I feel that as a moral responsibility the parents should think about the greater good of society and how this one child that they might be giving up could affect society around them later on in life, even if it is a child with disabilities.
I agree with you Alvarez it should be the parents choice to abort a child because having a child does only effect the parents because they are he ones that have to raise the child. I also agree with Kasheia that some people are not mature enough to raise a child with disabilities because everyday young women have "regular" babies and have trouble raising them so if they were to try to raise a child that has disabilities they would have a even harder time so they decided it would be better for them and the baby if they have a abortion.
To avoid repetition, I'm going to make an executive decision here and close the comments on this post.
This is an important discussion to have, but since there have been a number of posts on this topic already, I think it would be more productive to consolidate our conversation. There's no need to repeat ourselves.
If you would like to post more comments on the issue of abortion, please do so on the "Abortion Roundup" post from last Friday.
